Behind a gated entrance and past horse paddocks in Södra Sandby, outside of Lund, lies the home of prize winning Skånska Spritfabriken and its Master Blender, Jan Rothman. Best in Sweden was invited to come taste test some of the newest spirits that Jan has produced as well as the non-alcoholic selection and even some experimental blends that will hopefully one day make it to the shelves around the world. Skånska Spritfabriken focuses primarily on world class gin but also has some very exciting whiskey aging in barrels, which was delicious. Sticking to its Skånska roots, Skånska Spritfabriken also produces, Österlen, an amazing apple based liquor that is made from locally sourced apples and aged in French oak barrels, according to the calvados method. Currently, Skånska Spritfabriken is exporting internationally and you can read more about their impressive journey, long list of awards, full product list and growth plans here.
Upon our visit, Jan walked us through the history and processes that he uses to make his locally sourced and climate smart products. We visited the new distillery he is building on-site and heard how he plans on continuing to deliver high quality products while also incorporating the latest in energy saving technology and sustainability practices.
