One of my favorite types of eatery in America is the good old fashioned diner. They are rustic and homey in a way that is comforting for the mind, body, and spirit. Also, the food is generally farm fresh and made by experts that want nothing more than to create a dish that will satisfy your hunger and the craving for something homecooked.
The Barn gives this experience for those that can’t make it to America for the rustic, country diners. The restaurant has a rich history dating back to the original erected in Vara in 1934. They relocated to Göteborg in 2013 and have been delighting customers with their food and warmth ever since.
The atmosphere is cosy with eclectic decorations, candles, and fun serveware that comes straight from the kitchen or the farm. Despite the homespun decor and vibe, when you try the food you will understand you are getting something you simply can’t pull off at home.
The chefs work with local producers to ensure the freshest raw ingredients. From there, they expertly prepare the dishes with attention to even the smallest details. The result is juicy burgers that will leave you in a dream state, treats from the grill, and even vegan and vegetarian options that will blow your mind.
Along with all this, they offer great local beers and ciders as well as tasty cocktails. Many of the cocktails are classic recipes with a modern and Swedish twist. Like the Svenk Mojito made with O.P. Anderson, lemon, resin acid, and mint foam.
