On your next trip to Stockholm’s Sodermalm district, you might want to stop by Bondegatan 54 to enjoy a locale that offers the warm, welcoming charm of an old-fashioned tavern. Bistroteket bills itself as ‘a classic Swedish brassiere – and so much more’ and it delivers. The atmosphere makes you feel as if you’ve been transported to another time. And some of the prices may as well!
Bistroteket offers up good Swedish and French cuisine, along with some bistro favorites and dishes from other European traditions as well. Open seven days a week for dinner and into the evening, along with offering an a la carte brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, Bistroteket serves up classics like steak tartar, potato pancakes, entrecote, veal meatballs, steamed cod, and salted herring, along with burgers, salads, sandwiches, Spain’s Secreto Iberico, and vegetarian dishes, with, of course, ice cream, chocolate truffles, and crème brulee for dessert. Dinner prices average around 200 kr per person with the brunch menu running slightly less and cocktails are available.
But on Sundays, the eatery offers a special slow-cooked Sunday dinner starting at 1600 for only 150 kr per person, and Mondays feature Mussel Mondays, serving up the classic moules a la crème along with different dishes every week for the same price. Reservations are suggested, especially for the Sunday dinners, and the venue can also accommodate and plan menus for larger groups and special occasions. The bar area is also open each day starting at 1500 for walk-in customers only
