Not only is Gekås the largest department house in Sweden, but also in the entire Scandinavia. It was founded in 1963 by Göran Karlsson. At the beginning, Göran and his wife had the store in their own house. Low prices intrigued the costumers. After two years the revenue landed on 80 000 SEK. Today, the same amount goes through the tills in less than 3 minutes. The sales numbers today are unbelievable! On November 10th in 2018, the daily sales record hit 40,2 million SEK.
In Gekås you can find pretty much anything you need. Anything from aluminum foil, clothes, pet accessories, PC games to fruit and outdoor furnitures. It’s the perfect destination for when one is moving their own place for the first time. During a year, Gekås sells about 13 million pair of socks, 1,2 million pair of jeans and 1,7 million bottles of shampoo. It’s the place if you literally want to shop ‘til you drop.
During your visit you’ll need a coffee break, or four, and to fuel your body in the intense shopping. You don’t have to go far for a snack, they have several restaurants. On the first floor you’ll find a sports bar and a salad bar, and on the second floor you’ll find a café and the main restaurant.
Gekås is huge, in fact – the shop floor in the department store is 39 000m². They have over 100 000 unique articles. There’s quite a chance that you’ll miss out on something if you’re only there for one day. So, if you want to make sure you don’t miss out on those cheap pair of jeans or pretty mugs, stay the night. You can stay at the Gekås Hotel, Motel, Camping or in Cabins.
